The Colour of Perfume x Cathy Abraham
Everything we see, hear, smell, and taste is filtered through perception.
Curious to explore how another artist might translate scent into colour, we invited Cathy Abraham to respond to our perfumes through her language of pigment, gesture, and light.
We were curious of her interpretation of each perfume, to witness how fragrance might shift when seen through her eyes and hands. As we observed her responses, a question arose: could we accept and inhabit her vision?
This curiosity mirrors a pertinent state of the world right now: can we allow another’s perception and even use it in order to expand our own?
Can we find veracity or beauty in others’ perspectives?
The dialogue between scent and image became an act of transmutation, where essence became matter, and perception crossed thresholds of the seen and unseen.
A master of translucency and tone, Abraham’s symbolic and meditative approach to painting resonates with our philosophy of life and craft. Her spot on interpretation reflects not only her clear mind but also a deep connection to the universe and its nature, a rare feat and a privilege for us to have witnessed.
The group of 11 paintings commissioned by us, are now showing at our shop at 29 Pepper Street in Cape Town as a permanent retail installation
