With Ana Alexe

There were times when people eat from their gardens, spent their days tending to their animals and their dwellings, crafting themselves useful tools or decorative objects. In those times the shirts, trousers, skirts, coats, hats, or shoes were mostly made at home, by hand. They had to suit the morphology of the wearer's body through time, reflecting the cultural, tribal and regional symbols. Sometimes, hundreds of hours were spend to ornate and beautify a single shirt, to express one's personality and story

After an encounter with Romanian artist and designer Ana Alexe, we adventured into a collaboration with her to create a collection inspired from Romanian folkloric clothing. Since 2002 Ana designs for her own label Ana Alexe, clothing with meaning and stories taken as far as her imagination allows

We dreamed to have a white shirt as a part of our wardrobe proposal and Ana had designed one inspired from the famous Romanian Peasant blouse also known as IA. This shirt is symbolically called ANA and it is made from diaphanous 100% cotton batiste in one universal size that would fit from XS- L. 

She added to the collection a skirt similarly inspired from Romanian peasant’s work clothing. This is a practical simple skirt yet timeless and elegant. It is made from Italian 100% linen of the highest quality in our atelier in Cape Town, in two sizes that fit from XS – L.

Alongside the pieces created with Ana, our clothing collection is a distillation of our philosophy rooted in culture, respect for nature and artisanal work. Each garment is made to be worn and made to last, to allow freedom of movement and elegance. There is a particular energy about clothing that is meant to be with you for a long time. Every detail has to be considered and personal style trumps fashion trends.
